Expect lots of sun, very little rain, and less humidity on Sundays and Labor Day.
NEW ORLEANS – Thanks to a weak front on Saturday evening, we can enjoy a little less humidity on Sunday. It will still be hot with high temperatures around 94 degrees, but lower dew points in the 60s should limit the heat index to the mid or upper 90s. No rain is expected.
Labor Day looks similar, but the humidity can subside a bit, and a stray shower is possible.
The humidity returns and brings higher humidity and occasional rain from Tuesday to Thursday.
A cold front then approaches our area. It may slow down as it approaches us, but it should finally take hold by Friday. This would add a very pleasant break in humidity for the next weekend, and temperatures could even drop a little with highs, maybe only in the mid or high 80s.
There are currently no tropical threats to our area, but there are some active areas in the Atlantic, including two tropical waves near Africa.
These waves have a high likelihood of developing over the next few days, but can curve north in the central Atlantic due to weakening of the Bermuda Ridge, which usually directs storms west towards the Caribbean.
This would be a good pattern for us, and we are beginning to set in motion cold fronts in the US that can protect us from tropical threats. That doesn’t mean we’re done with tropical threats, but these are good trends as we near the peak of the season on Thursday.
