After seven rigorous years, the Outlaw Speedway Dirt Track will finally celebrate its grand opening tomorrow with its first car race.
The track was built by hand where the owner Zach Rushing and his crew scoured southeast Mississippi for loads of material.
They were able to obtain old bleachers from high schools and avoided sub-contracting with any companies.
The family friendly track gives race car fans another outlet of entertainment in South Mississippi. Admission for children five and under is free while children six to 12 is $10. General admission is $15 for 13 years and up.
The Outlaw Speedway is located at 1192 Vestry Road in Perkinston, Mississippi. Rushing said, “So everybody knows what NASCAR is? This ain’t nothing like that. This isn’t cars going out there making four left turns in a circle. These cars stay sideways, sliding across the dirt, more than they stay straight. The horse power, you’re gonna get covered in red mud and that’s part of the experience. My grandpa always said, nothing tastes better than French fries and red clay. It’s a completely different experience. I can’t describe it in words, you’re just going to have to come out and see it.”
The gates will open Saturday at 3 p.m. and the racing will begin at 7 p.m.
