NEW ORLEANS – A NOPD officer was shot and wounded on Royal Street in the French Quarter.
According to the NOPD, the officer was taken to hospital and a suspect is in police custody.
The shooting took place near the intersection of Royal Street and St. Phillip Street.
According to a NOPD source, the wounded officer is a male officer from the eighth district. They said the wounded officer spoke and was coherent when he arrived at the university hospital.
Witnesses tell WWL-TV that they saw a man get up from the back of a pedicab and fire a pistol at the officer’s patrol car without being told to do so in broad daylight.
Filming took place in the middle of the French Quarter as the crowd wandered the streets on Halloween weekend.
