The contact sports season in the city remains suspended even after the rest of Louisiana moved to Phase 3 of the reopening last month.
NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans health and leisure officials will hold a joint press conference Monday lunchtime to announce plans for the future of college sports in the city amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The contact sports season in the city remains suspended even after the rest of Louisiana moved to Phase 3 of the reopening last month. New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell made it clear that getting kids back to school is a priority, and that high school football doesn’t. The city’s health director, Dr. Jennifer Avegno, accused the Louisiana High School Athletic Association of having no plan to protect players and coaches from the virus.
But last week, LHSAA Cantrell’s coronavirus task force made a recommendation on the immediate future of college sports in the Orleans community. A press conference was scheduled for 12 noon. Monday to announce plans which, according to WWL-TV sources Doug Mouton, will be “positive” for college sports.
The press conference will be broadcast live on WWLTV.com and on the Facebook page of WWL-TV at 12 noon.
