Many retailers face an unusual back-to-school shopping season that usually spikes sales in July and August. This year is different as many schools and colleges are planning a remote start.
Bed Bath & Beyond recently launched a “College at homeSection on its website that encourages parents and students to purchase new goods to turn their kids’ rooms into so-called “dreamy dormitories” for distance learning, with youthful themes like “Chill Camp Vibes”, “Low-Key Bohemian” and “ Modern glamor. “
The goal is to “make the spaces more effective and exciting for them even when they can’t be on campus,” said Joe Hartsig, chief merchandising officer at Bed Bath & Beyond. “It’s a real window of change for students to reflect that they moved on from high school and into college and want their room to reflect another room.”
Kohls back to school Offers are listed online under the motto “Go Back or Sign Up, The New Year Starts Here”. The typical clothing and backpacks are followed by a link to face masks and hand disinfectants. Another section, tailored for distant learners, provides “everything a child needs to redefine the routine”. It contains links to educational toys and virtual learning tools, as well as other titles titled “Your Kitchen Cafeteria” and “Backyard Recess”.
