Fishermen from all over paraded down the Coast, ready to compete for the 25th annual Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic.
Fishing teams from across the country are ready to cast their lines in hopes to catch the big one. One hundred and one teams are competing for more than one million dollars in cash for the largest tuna, dolphin, blue marlin, and wahoo.
A $275,000 swordfish jackpot prize will also be awarded to the team that breaks the current Mississippi state swordfish record of 242.54 pounds.
Billfish Classic Release Coordinator Jimmy Taylor tells News 25 how the classic helps boost tourism for the Coast. “Several of us have been here for 25 years volunteering and what it brings is a lot of money to the Gulf Coast. It brings a lot of people from Texas and different areas from the country that not only come down here and fish, but they come back time and time again which helps our local economy.”
The classic is open to the public. The scales open tomorrow and will close Saturday at 6 p.m.
